What is the Cultural Plan?
It is in essence a set of policy recommendations for countywide
cultural development over approximately the next five to ten years. The
policy recommendations were derived from an extensive process of
community assessment and participation, and they are intended for
implementation by the Arts and Culture Commission as well as many other
partners. It is not merely a Plan for the Commission. It is a Plan for
the whole community and will require collective action to accomplish
its goals.
The scope of planning was threefold:
- To identify and research arts and culture resources throughout the County.
- To assess arts and cultural needs, in relation to overall community needs.
- To develop strategic responses to those needs.
Stated another way, the planning goals were to learn “who is doing
what,” what they need, how they can better serve the wider community,
and how the Commission can help, in partnership with other
problem-solvers in the County.
