Art on the Wild Side on Exhibit In County Administration Building

Works by more than a dozen local artists ö all staff members and volunteers of the Lindsay Wildlife Museum in Walnut Creek÷are on display in public spaces of the County Administration Building in Martinez.

The exhibit, ã The Lindsay Museum: The Art of Keeping It Wild,ä was arranged by Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County in connection with the museumâs 50th anniversary. The exhibit is part of the commissionâs  ãarts passagesä program that highlights artists and organizations from throughout the county.  The program is designed to celebrate the diverse forms of creative expression of artists representing specific supervisorial districts.

Individual artists include Glynda Dixon, Kathy Gyorfi, Susan Heckly, Margrete Heising, Elizabeth Maffeo Koval, Ruth Mullin, Brian Murphy, John Osmer, Wendy Sparks, Jeff Torquemada, Joe Watson and Lisa Yount.

ãWhen you look at the images in this exhibition, you are reminded, once again, of the power and beauty of where we live, and of the importance of understanding and connecting with what is wild around us,ä said Jennifer Delgadillo Bevington, AC5 exhibitions manager.ä The vision of these artists and the strength  of their work is a great homage to the museum and all that is has accomplished over the years.ä

Echoing  themes of previous art passages exhibitions, Bevington noted that, ãThe overall impression of the exhibition, is of the power, and beauty of that these works of art convey with such certainty  and simplicity.ä

The exhibit, representing Supervisorial District 2, continues through July 8.

IT WAS A HOOT:  On hand for the opening of the wildlife art exhibit were Patty Blasquez, Lindsay Wildlife Museum animal handler, with barn owl;
Eunice Valentine, the museumâs executive director; Gayle Uilkema, chair of the Board of Supervisors, and Patty Harris, education director for the museum.
