a collection of art from district 4
September 20, 2005 - December 2, 2005
Local history buffs know that the City of Pleasant Hill is
situated on land that was part of the original Spanish Land
Grant known as Rancho Las Juntas, which translates into "the
Crossroads.” Las Juntas Artists—founded in 1973 in Pleasant
Hill—chose the name with the concept in mind of artists
working together to learn more about art and to learn to
appreciate art in every sense.
Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier dedicated this ninth
exhibition for the art passages series during
the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on Tuesday, September 20th
in the building at 651 Pine Street.
For thirty-two years, local residents who are members of Las
Juntas Artists have been working together to promote the
continual expansion of the artistic talents of its members
through education, the exchange of ideas and techniques,
critiques, demonstrations, workshops and exhibitions. Las
Juntas Artists also exists to further the understanding and
appreciation of art in all forms on the part of its members
and the general public.
This exhibit features the artwork of 24 artists including
Hildred Askins, Joanne Casky, Mary Lou Clover, C.L. Crew,
Patricia Crew, Mary D’Amante, Maria DeRuyte, Harold Douros,
Janice Earle, Bobbi Garrop, Ron Goodyear, Patricia Hill,
Beatrice Johnson, Linda MacDannald, Dan Meeks, Rana
Miller-Owen, Jackie Nelson, Joseph Rolandelli, Marjorie
Rolandelli, Gloria Rodriguez, Tom Shimizu, James Spurs, E.L.
Terry, and June Vega.

The Arts & Culture Commission of Contra Costa County (AC5)
developed the program art passages: collections of art from
Contra Costa County to create an opportunity for artists to
show their work to a larger public and to attract potential
buyers for the County artists’ work.
