Contra Costa County Colleges Art Faculty Invitational Exhibit
May 16, 2006 - September 6, 2006
This exhibit featured works by 13 faculty members from four Contra Costa
County colleges. Darwin Marable, a member of the
commission who coordinated the exhibit, remarked that the works “can be challenging,
provocative, perplexing, and mysterious, but always engaging
and rewarding.”
“Contra Costa County is fortunate in having four college
art departments with outstanding faculty members who are
also practicing artists -- painters, sculptors, printmakers,
and photographers,” Marable said. “Most of these artists
were educated in the visual arts at one of the well known
Bay Area graduate programs: San Francisco Art Institute,
California College of Art, San Francisco State University,
San Jose State University and U.C. Berkeley. They pass along
their own knowledge, philosophy and skills to their
students.”
The artists:
-
Contra Costa College: John Diestler, Donna Fenstermaker,
Susannah Israel
- Diablo Valley College: Patrick Dintino, Scott King, Jesse
Lovell, Chris Marker, Tim Taylor
- Los Medanos College: Rosalie Cassell
- St. Mary's College: Ray Beldner, Margarita Casanova, Kara
Maria and Bijan Yashar
The exhibit, arranged by the Arts and Culture Commission
of Contra Costa County under its “Art Passages” program, was
on display on the ground floor of the county administration
building at 651 Pine Street in downtown Martinez. Additional artwork for this exhibition was on view in the
Board of Supervisors’ Chambers (Room 107) and in the Foyer
Hallway.
