About Awards E-mail

Each year since 1996, the Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County has honored individuals and organizations that have made significant artistic or philanthropic contributions to Contra Costa County’s arts and culture through its Arts Recognition Awards program.  Nominations are solicited from the community at large in the June/July timeframe, and an impartial panel of jurists selects five honorees. The honorees will be recognized at a free public event in October, as part of National Arts & Humanities Month. A half-hour video profile of the honorees will premier at the event and then be aired on Contra Costa County television throughout the year.

A nominee must be or have been an active participant or supporter of arts and culture activities with contributions and work having a far-reaching impact in Contra Costa County and beyond.  The nominee should either be a county resident or contribute to the arts and cultural life of the county.

Individuals: There are no award categories. An individual may be nominated for work or contributions in any discipline or combinations thereof.  Examples include Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Literary Arts, Arts Administration and Arts Education, including volunteers.

Organizations and Businesses:  Organizations related to arts and culture in their broadest sense that show exceptional leadership, vision and commitment to the growth and support of arts and culture are appropriate nominees.  Businesses and organizations that have made contributions of continuous and/or significant financial support or in-kind support to arts-related organizations or individuals that sustain Contra Costa County arts are eligible.
